Good is God
Psalm 16:2
I said to the
LORD,
“You are my Master!
All the good
things I have
are
from You.” (NLT)
Even
though it is politically incorrect to use the master-slave narrative to
reference how most relationships work in this fallen world, it is in truth, a
reality. Because whatever controls the way you live and think, is by definition
your master. When people spend most of
their time and energy trying to get what the world offers them, it controls
just about everything they do—they become enslaved by it—it owns them. This same kind of relationship can also be
applied to our life in Christ, for when you accept Jesus as your Savior, you
become His because He paid the price for your redemption—He set you free from
your slavery to sin and this evil world—He owns you. Even though God is the Creator and He owns
everything, He gives us the freedom to choose our masters. We can choose Christ Jesus and live under
Him, or we can choose the god of this evil world, Satan, and be bound in
sin. We can choose the Father of Life
and live righteously, or we can choose the father of lies and live in sin. When you reject and rebel against God, you
become a slave to your sinful flesh and you will spend most your time and
energy seeking to satisfy the lusts of your carnal flesh with the things of
this world.
Unbeknownst to me, my master was Satan and I was enslaved by this fallen
world for most of my life. I indulged in many of its sinful pleasures, because
I thought this life was all I had, and what I got was what I deserved. But that has all changed because I learned
the Truth. Jesus Christ has set me free
from the power of sin that this world embraces.
I am no longer controlled by my sinful lusts and the evil of Satan, for
I now belong to Christ. I have
discovered that all good things are from our God in Heaven and everything else
comes from the devil, who is the creator of all evil. With God as your Master, you will sleep in
peace knowing that His goodness will be with you when you awaken. So who would you like for a master, my
friend? The God who lovingly created you
to live in His goodness forever? Or the
god of this evil world who wants only the worst for you? Be wise and choose the God who died for your
sins and cleansed you with His blood, so you could dwell in His goodness
forever.
A Whisper of Hope
Listen
closely, My child…don’t let this world enslave you with its evil
pleasures that result in death. Instead,
allow me to be the only Master you serve and I will shower you with goodness. Bondage to this world will only leave you
empty, alone and afraid. But when you
serve the Living God, the Lord and King of creation, you have everything!
Romans 7:24-25
Oh, what a
miserable person I am! Who will free me
from
this life that
is dominated by sin? Thank God! The answer
is in Jesus
Christ our Lord. So you see how it is:
in my mind
I really want
to obey God’s law, but because of my sinful nature
I am a slave
to sin. (NLT)
How true it is that
a servant is not
greater than the master.
(John
13:16)
